Businesstraveller.com compiles stories from the lighter side of business travel. This week: W Hotels, Radisson Edwardian, Changi airport, Crowne Plaza and ViaMichelin.
Dressed for success
Gwen Stefani is to design the new uniforms for bar staff at Starwood’s W Hotels. The Californian singer has reportedly signed a deal to produce the uniforms through her LAMB fashion label, with the new attire due to debut early next year. Businesstraveller.com has No Doubt the uniforms will be a great success.
How does your garden grow?
The Radisson Edwardian Hotel Manchester has come up with an ingenius way of sourcing local foods, by launching a fully sustainable kichen garden on its rooftop. The “secret garden” includes tomatoes, courgettes, chilli peppers, onions and various herbs. A sage idea if ever we heard one.
Butterfly effect
Gardens are also on the agenda at Singapore’s Changi airport, where the Butterfly Garden has been opened inside Terminal 3. The 330-sqm passenger experience is home to more than 1,000 free-roaming butterflies from 47 species. Rumours that the whole idea was due to be mothballed are unfounded.
I think we’re alone now
Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts has announced the second contributor to its business-travel Think Tank campaign will be designer Stefan Sagmeister. The Crowne Plaza Hamburg will launch the campaign with an installation called “Travelling alone is useful for a new perspective on life” featuring a set of mannequins. Anyone who doesn’t like the display is quite frankly a dummy.
All mapped out
Road-travel expert viamichelin.co.uk has launched “Road to Knowledge”, an online treasure hunt challenging visitors to solve riddles through clues hidden in different sections of the website. Participants stand to win a trip for two to Mauritius, although businesstraveller assumes you won’t be expected to get there by car...
