Jet2 to expand at East Midlands
Published: 08/05/2012 - Filed under: News »
Low-cost carrier Jet2 is to expand its operations at East Midlands, following the news that Bmibaby plans to cease flights from the airport in September (see online news May 4).
A total of eight new routes will be added for the winter season, to Chambery, Dubrovnik, Geneva, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Larnaca, Menorca and Nice. The new destinations will bring to 23 the number of routes served by Jet2 from East Midlands.
The airline joins regional carrier Flybe in announcing expansion plans at East Midlands (see online news May 4), filling the gap left by Bmibaby’s imminent departure. Flybe is to add new winter routes to Amsterdam, Paris CDG, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Jersey, and will also increase frequencies to Belfast City.
Bmibaby routes from East Midlands to Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva, Nice, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newquay will cease on June 11, and the carrier says it is “proposed that all Bmibaby flights departing from Monday September 10, 2012 onwards will no longer operate”.
