IHG to increase Priority Club redemption rates

Intercontinental Hotels Group is to increase reward night redemption rates for around 25 per cent of it properties later this month, although some hotels will see their rates decrease.

The changes will take effect from January 18, with new 20,000-point redemption categories added to rewards for Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites properties, a 25,000-point rate added to Staybridge Suites redemptions, 35,000-point redemptions added to Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo stays, and a 50,000-point top rate added to Intercontinental Hotels properties. IHG has provided a table highlighting the new categories in yellow here.

The group says that “Points required for a Reward Night will increase for only about a quarter of IHG hotels, while points needed for a Reward Night will either remain the same or decrease for the other 75 per cent”. It’s not yet clear which properties will see their redemption rates change.

IHG says that any redemptions made before January 18 will be honoured at the current rates, and there will also be a grace period, whereby customers will be able to redeem rooms under the current rates until March 18, 2012 (for stays until March 18, 2013), providing they contact their regional Priority Club Service Centre. IHG also says there will be no changes to the number of points earned per stay, or to redemption rates for non-hotel rewards.

In January 2010 rival hotel group Hilton Worldwide made changes to its Hilton HHonors programme, leading to IHG to offer 400 million Priority Club points to compensate HHonors members for “recent increases in Hilton HHonors’ hotel rewards rates” – for more information see online news February 3, 2010.

25% increase for ICH and 40% increase for Crowne Plazas! I wonder if the outages on their website to day was due to a flurry of Priority Club members booking up. I'm disappointed at the sharp increases.
