Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened the Intercontinental London – the O2 on the Greenwich Peninsula.
The new 453-room hotel has five restaurants (see news, October 2015) including The Peninsula Restaurant and rooftop sky bar, Eighteen.
It is the hotel’s meeeting and banqueting facilities, however, that are most notable.
The hotel’s conference centre has a 3,100sqm pillar-free ballroom – one of the largest in Europe. It seats 2,400 for a banquet.
In central London the largest ballroom is the Great Room of the JW Marriott Grosvenor House. This can seat up to 2,000 for a banquet, but only by using the balcony of the room. On the main ballroom floor the maximum is about 1,300.
The new Intercontinental has an additional 19 meeting rooms, an organiser’s office and an impressive 1,600 sqm pre-function space with views of Canary Wharf.
The hotel is adjacent to the O2 Arena and 400m from North Greenwich underground station and North Greenwich Pier.
The hotel is being operated under a franchise agreement with Meridian Hotel Operations Limited and managed by a division of the Arora Group.
“We are delighted to be partnering once more with IHG, delivering another best in class project.
