Iceland Express reinstates Stansted service

Iceland Express is to restart flights from London Stansted to Reykavik from this November, joining its existing service from London Gatwick, and a forthcoming route from Birmingham.

The carrier served Reykavik from Stansted up until May this year, when its switched its London flights to Gatwick (see online news April 16). The airline says that “in response to public demand” it has decided to reinstate the Stansted service, in addition to the existing Gatwick route.

The new service will operate twice-weekly on Mondays and Fridays from November, ahead of a third UK route from Birmingham airport, due to commence in summer 2010.

Commenting on the move, Iceland Express' CEO Matthias Imsland said:

“The demand for flights between the UK and Iceland is stronger than it’s ever been so we wanted to cater for this popularity.

“We have always had good relations at Stansted Airport so it seemed only natural to fly from there once again. Also, we were getting lots of requests to move back to the airport from our customers who used to use the service regularly.

“This addition to our schedule is extremely exciting for Iceland Express and comes at a great time for the airline, especially as we are also launching our new Birmingham route next summer.”
