Iberia unveils Madrid lounge refurbishments

Iberia has completed the refurbishment of its three lounges at Madrid’s Terminal 4, as part of its €150 million “client service improvement initiative”.

The carrier has employed Michelin-starred Spanish chef Sergi Arola to create new food and beverage offerings in the Dali, Goya and Velazquez lounges, including buffet choices such as gazpacho, salads, omelettes and chocolate doughnuts. The Velazquez lounge (used by overseas and long-haul passengers) now also offers main dishes including sirloin steak with caramelised apple and cod with Spanish ratatouille, allowing passengers to work or sleep during their flight.

Decor in the lounges has also been revamped, using Feng Shui philosophies and materials including bamboo, river stones and mosses, as well as two waterfalls in the Dali lounge. Facilities in the Velazquez are now open 24 hours a day, to accommodate transit passengers arriving early in the morning.

Iberia has also completed renovations of its lounges in Valencia, Bilbao, Frankfurt  and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), and plans to refurbish facilities at airports in Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires over the next three years. At Heathrow the carrier has now moved into T3, offering premium passengers access to the new BA-branded Galleries Club lounge (see online news May 6).

A nice refresh of the lounge, but do not turn up hungry between 3 or 4pm and 7pm (if I remember correctly) as there will be very little or no food!!

The large signs around the lounge make clear that food is served from 6am to midnight, apart from the above period.

The food offering appears to have improved, however, outside of these times.
