Iberia revamps business class offering

Spanish flag carrier Iberia is increasing the pitch and recline of its long-haul business class seating, by removing a row of seats from the premium cabin.
The carrier says that removing an entire row of Business Plus seats from its A340 fleet, and repositioning the remaining seats, will increase the space between each row by 30cm (from 152cm to 183cm), and enable each seat to recline into a fully horizontal sleeping position.
The revamp has so far taken place on three of Iberia’s A340 aircraft, with the rest of the fleet due to be refitted by March 2010. These aircraft serve long-haul routes from Spain to destinations including the US, Latin America and South Africa.
It will see the number of business class seats on the carrier’s A340-600 aircraft reduced from 52 to 42, while on the A340-300 fleet the reduction will be from 42 to 36 seats. Iberia says it is currently working on an all-new Business Plus seat for 2012.

Excellent news.
"Wedgie Beds" are only fun for a limited number of lonely people. Most normal people find them uncomfy, constricting and do not sleep as well as would be the case were they fully flat.
American Airlines still struggles on with wedgies in J , as does Lufthansa.
Qantas, on the other hand, was a trailblazer for this idea, similarly increasing the recline on its wedgies to fully flat on its new A380 services.
This will make Iberia a genuine potential choice for future travel, whereas previously I had discounted it.
