Hyatt Hotels has announced the opening of its first property in Dusseldorf, a city known for its conferences and events.

The 303-room Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf is located in one of two newly-built, 19-floor towers in the city’s Media Harbour area. Hyatt said its central location, putting it close to the “most important exhibition and conference centres in the city”, would attract both business and leisure travellers.

The hotel was expected to open early next year as previously reported on Business Traveller (see online news September 27). But its early launch sees the hotel open with some facilities not yet ready.

The hotel has launched with one restaurant, a bar, a sushi bar and a gym plus all of its meeting space available, but more facilities are expected to open by mid-February 2011. These include its “Regency Club” private lounge, a spa and a second restaurant.

Each of the 290 guestrooms and 13 suites feature flat-screen televisions, high-speed internet, MP3 docking stations, tea and coffee making facilities and separate work areas. Bathrooms include rain head showers and baths.

The hotel has 850sqm of meeting and event space, including a 445sqm ballroom that can be split into two spaces. Four meeting rooms on the ground floor include a 14-capacity boardroom and two larger 24-capacity spaces.

Dusseldorf is set to host several notable conferences and events next year, including the Eurovision Song Contest and the Business Travel and Meetings Show (Dusseldorf).
