Hyatt announces second Istanbul property and launches community website

17 Apr 2008 by BusinessTraveller

Hyatt Hotels and Resorts is the latest group to announce a hotel opening in Istanbul, with a 90-room Park Hyatt property slated for this summer.

The hotel will be located in the Tesvikiye district, around one mile inland from the Bosphorus, and will join Hyatt’s Regency property in the nearby Taksim district.

The Park Hyatt Istanbul – Macka Palas will be housed in a restored art deco building dating back to 1922, designed by Italian architect Giulio Mongeri and inspired by Milanese palazzos. Guest rooms will feature flatscreen TVs, DVD players, iPod docking stations, digital telephones, internet access, work areas, minibars and laptop safes, as well as “oversized wet rooms clad in local fossalised limestone”.

For meetings there will be two boardrooms, and leisure facilities will include an outdoor pool and bar area, as well as a spa (with separate male and female sections) including steam baths, treatment rooms and a gym. The Palas Lounge will feature all-day dining, while Prime steakhouse will specialise in “prime cuts and seafood prepared on a charcoal grill”.

Hyatt will be joining W Hotels (see online news, April 3) and Four Seasons (see online news, April 11) in opening new properties in Istanbul this year.

In other news, Hyatt Gold Passport (the group’s loyalty programme) has launched a community website for its members. The site, known as “yatt’it”, provides visitors with tips from local Hyatt concierges in 40 destinations worldwide, along with advice from frequent flyers and a mobile download version for business travellers.
