London will welcome a luxury eco-hotel this winter, when the 65-room Hotel Rafayel opens in an area dubbed the capital’s new Left Bank.

Located in Battersea close to The London Heliport and with views of The Thames, the property will be the first in the UK to use only LED lights instead of traditional light bulbs and flourescent lights. The hotel says this will save 400,000kg of carbon emissions oper year, or 17kg per room per day.

Features include specially commissioned art and sculpture throughout the hotel, and business travel-friendly rooms with free wifi internet access, in-room video conferencing, and a “MediaHub panel”, allowing guest to connect mp3 players, laptops and digital cameras to the TV and audio system.

There will also be a conference room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a WellWorld Spa, a 17th floor roof terrace with 360 degree views of the capital, and a riverside Champagne bar and restaurant with its own roof terrace for alfresco dining. Traditional Afternoon Tea will also be provided by the in-house Mychelle’s Baketique.

Due to open in December, the hotel will provide a shuttle service to Victoria, Green Park and Knightsbridge every 20 minutes. Hotal Rafayel is located on the South Bank of the River Thames, close to the forthcoming Hotel Verta (a Von Essen property situated next to The London Heliport) and within walking distance of several residential developments including Oyster Wharf and Falcon Wharf.

The hotel is currently finalising its website, but more details can be viewed at rafayelshotel.blogspot.com.

Rafayel on the left bank has a beautiful location, when i saw it on my last visit to London and the structure intrigued me so much i began researching it on the net and found this site, so close to the city yet away from the noise, with a breathtaking view of the Thames, i cant wait to stay at it on my next visit!

I've stayed in a building near the hotel and i surely recommend the place for its amazing view on the river themes, as for transportation there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel.

Hotel Rafayel on the Left Bank. The innovative concept of the new “Left Bank” has caught the eye of many with its claims of “green” and eco friendly approach to luxury without compromise.

Due to open in December 2009, over on Battersea’s newly coined ‘Left Bank’ represents, as forward thinking developer Mr. Ike Latif says “a branded product that embraces technological advances yet is ecologically aware.” He adds that "The concept of the hotel on the capital's new Left Bank in the culturally prosperous environ of Battersea is a key step forward in formalising the renaissance of Battersea, not unlike the discovery and patronage of the Seine's Rive Gauche by intellectual greats such as Sartre, de Beauvoir, Zola, Camus or Hemingway and Fitzgerald."

It is by far the most interesting idea i have come across in years, I look forward to witness this.

I was lucky enough to stay here in its very first week of launch after a last minute booking on the website when I realised I had stop over in London. I was so impressed by the space in the rooms, unbelievably large and very modern outlook. I loved the decor and close to Kings Road, so perfect for nipping out for some Xmas shopping. I had a great experience here and it was probably the first London Hotel I have stayed at, where it did nt feel like I was stuck in a little box. I wish I had a chance to use the gym and the sauna, but will probably try that later!

Great great value for money. I've recommended it highly to my posse of friends. Rafayel on the Left Bank is remarkable and unique. I'm the quintessential environmentalist who isn't averse to a tad bit of hedonistic indulgence. Rafayel was the absolute perfect answer with its eco-friendly features combined with all things good! In my books, Rafayel gets 7 stars! Thank you for the warm hospitality and for making my stay so memorable.
