Starwood’s Hotel National property in Moscow has been rebranded under the group’s growing Luxury Collection portfolio.

Formerly a Le Meridien hotel, the property is now known as Hotel National, A Luxury Collection Hotel, joining over 70 other hotels within the brand, including the recently revamped Turnberry golf resort in Scotland (see online news July 14).

The Moscow hotel overlooks the Kremlin and Red Square, and was built in 1903 by Russian architect Alexander Ivanov. It has undergone extensive refurbishments prior to the rebranding, including all guest rooms, suites and public areas. A second renovation phase will start in 2010, to add underground parking, two new presidential suites, and new spa and fitness facilities. Starwood also plans to renovate the the hotel’s Alexandrovsky bar and Moskovski restaurant, with the refurbishment projects due to be completed by 2012.

The Moscow hotel scene is currently undergoing a renaissance, with Hyatt, Radisson and Hilton all recently opening new hotels in the city, and Mandarin Oriental, Shangri-La and Holiday Inn due to unveil properties in the next couple of years.
