Hong Kong Airlines partners with Michelin-starred chef

3 Feb 2012 by ScottCarey7

Hong Kong Airlines has partnered with Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton to create a new in-flight dining concept for its all-Club Class London Gatwick to Hong Kong service, due for its inaugural flight on March 8.

Atherton will help create a menu which will be available for passengers in both the Club Classic and Club Premier cabins. The menu aims to reflect elements of the culinary traditions of both China and Europe and will be complemented by a specially selected wine list and choice of Chinese teas.

Jason Atherton is known for his appearances on popular BBC cooking show Great British Menu where, in 2008, he served both the starter and main course at a banquet hosted by Heston Blumenthal at the Gherkin building in London. Atherton formerly trained under Gordon Ramsay before famously parting ways in 2011 to open his flagship London restaurant, Mayfair's Pollen Street Social, which was awarded its first Michelin star six months after opening.

"The opportunity to work with a dynamic airline brand for an exciting new launch in this way is incredible. I’m looking forward to showcasing my concept for Hong Kong Airlines to give customers a truly memorable experience,” said Atherton.

This dining concept is just one of many announcements from the airline as it gears up for the launch of the new flagship London route in early March. Earlier this week Business Traveller released images of the new Club Classic and Club Premier seating (see online news January 31) to go with an exclusive seat plan of the aircraft at sister website Seatplans.com, which can be seen here.
