Gulf Air to offer live Olympics coverage in-flight

24 Jul 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Long-haul passengers flying on Gulf Air services between July 27 and August 12 will be able to watch live coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games

Live coverage of the Games is being provided through the Sport 24 channel as part of the carrier’s new ‘Sky Hub’ in-flight entertainment (IFE) system and will be available on routes to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Gulf Air’s Sky Hub (see online news October 12, 2011) connects passengers with live TV, mobile phone and internet availability on its long-haul aircraft. Internet access is charged at $15 USD for one hour or $30 USD for 24 hours.

Around 60 per cent of the Gulf Air widebody fleet is currently fitted with the new IFE system, including those that serve the UK, depending on aircraft scheduling. Passengers will also be able to use GSM to link laptops and tablets to the internet for live sports streaming.

Gulf Air chief executive officer Samer Majali said, “Since the launch of ‘SkyHub’ in October 2011, we have continued to offer our customers unique viewing experience onboard bringing live coverage of popular sports events such as Euro 2012 and Wimbledon.”
