Gulf Air confirms Iraq service
Published: 05/08/2009 - Filed under: News »
Gulf Air says it will commence flights to the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on September 1, with services to Najaf and Erbil following later that month.
The carrier will ply the Bahrain-Baghdad route five times-weekly using Airbus A320 aircraft, with tickets available from Thursday August 6. Gulf Air says it plans to increase this service to daily “in the near future”.
Flight GF201 will depart Bahrain at 0945 on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, arriving into Baghdad at 1130, with the return leg GF200 leaving the Iraqi capital at 1245, landing back in Bahrain at 1425.
The carrier will also launch flights to the holy city of Najaf (around 160km south of Baghdad), and the northern city of Erbil by the end of September.
The news comes as Iraqi Airways gears up to resume flights to London. The homepage of its website states that the flights will be “coming soon”, and when Business Traveller called the airline’s London call centre we were informed that while there are no confirmed dates as yet, a service is due to start in the next couple of weeks.
