Global Hotel Alliance enters South America

Tivoli Hotels and Resorts has become the latest hotelier to join the Global Hotel Alliance (GHA), expanding the alliance’s reach into both Brazil and Portugal.

GHA's CEO Chris Hartley said the membership of Tivolia, a Portuguese group with 13 properties within its home country plus two in Brazil, was a “critical step in GHA’s growth plans”.

Hartley also described Brazil as South America’s “most important emerging market” while acknowledging that GHA’s European portfolio had also been strengthened.

GHA recently announced details of its ‘Discovery’ loyalty programme, set to launch in April this year (see online news November 11) but first reported by Business Traveller back in 2007. GHA’s members, such as Kempinski, Leela, The Doyle Collection and now Tivoli, will retain their individual loyalty schemes but with three new standardised tier levels - Gold, Platinum and Black.

GHA’s other members include Leela, Omni, Pan Pacific, Marco Polo, Landis, Anantara, Cham Palaces and Hotels and First Hotels of Scandinavia.

In 2006 Tivoli expanded into Brazil with a luxury resort in Praia do Forte in Bahia, the Tivoli Ecoresort Praia do Forte, followed by the five-star Tivoli São Paulo (pictured) which opened last year.
