German air traffic control strike called off

4 Aug 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Germany's GdF union has called off today's planned six-hour strike, following an injunction granted in favour of air traffic control authority DFS.

The union had voted in favour of a strike taking place between 0600 and 1200 local time, which would have affected flights operating over the country, as well as those departing from and arriving into German cities.

The country's air traffic control authority DFS had managed to obtain an injunction ruling the strike was illegal, and while GdF immediately appealed against the ruling, it decided to abandon today's strike action, as any appeal decision would have been announced too late, increasing disruption to travellers.
