Garuda Indonesia to offer non-stop flights from Heathrow to Jakarta

28 Jan 2016 by BusinessTraveller

Garuda Indonesia is to offer the first non-stop flights from the UK to Indonesia from the end of March.

The carrier current flies to Jakarta from London’s Gatwick airport, with a stop in Amsterdam enroute.

But as reported by Business Traveller in November, flights will move to Heathrow from March 31, and become non-stop in the process.

Garuda will also increase the service from three to five flights per week, operated with B777-300ER aircraft.

Heathrow said that the slot agreement with Garuda Indonesia took six years to come to fruition, adding that the airport currently has a queue of 30 airlines waiting for slots.

Commenting on the move Jubi Prasetyo, Garuda’s General Manager UK & Ireland said:

“Making the move to Heathrow Airport has been an ambition of ours since joining Skyteam in March 2014.

“Heathrow’s pivotal role in servicing the alliance’s 1,052 destinations makes it an ideal departure airport for our passengers.”
