Fuel supply issues hit Manchester airport

6 Jun 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Airlines using Manchester airport are being advised to carry additional fuel supplies as the facility experiences problems with its fuel supply from a nearby refinery.

The airport requires around three million litres of aviation fuel per day to function properly, and a spokesperson said that the airport is experiencing “temporary problems with their supply” from the Stanlow Refinery, owned by Essar Energy.

A statement said that “Whilst we do not expect this to cause widespread disruption, it is possible that some airlines may decide to cancel, divert or delay a small number of flights from 1800 tonight into tomorrow morning”.

The airport says it is a “short term problem”, but is advising airline to carry additional fuel “wherever possible”, and says passengers travelling this evening and tomorrow morning to check the status of their flight with the relevant airline before going to the airport.

The airport says that “Experts from the fuel companies, the airport and airlines are working hard to resolve the issue and minimise any impact”.
