Fog and French general strike cause UK flight disruption

23 Oct 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Adverse weather conditions continue to affect flights at several southern UK airports, while industrial action by French air traffic control is also disrupting services.

London City has been particularly badly hit by fog yesterday and this morning, with its website stating that flights are being disrupted due to “poor visibility”, and advising passengers to contact their airlines for more information.

Cityjet - one of the airport’s largest operators – is showing a series of cancellations on its real-time arrivals and departures board.

Southend airport also states that “Due to inclement weather conditions there are currently disruptions at London Southend Airport and destination airports”.

Easyjet – which operates flights from Southend airport – says that “Fog across the south of the UK is causing disruption to the Easyjet programme”, with some flights to and from Southend being rerouted to Stansted (more information here).

Meanwhile Heathrow’s website warns that “Due to continuing weather disruption and industrial action by French air traffic control, there are delays and cancellations to flights”.

Gatwick’s Twitter feed also says that is experiencing “some delays due to the foggy weather”, and again advises passengers to contact their airline if travelling today, while Bristol airport’s Twitter page says that there are “Some ATC delays today caused by French Civil Service strikes”.

Ryanair has cancelled a series of flights to and from French airports due to the industrial action – more information and details of how to rebook or apply for a refund can be found here.
