Flyglobespan goes into administration

16 Dec 2009 by Mark Caswell

Scottish-based low-cost carrier Flyglobespan has gone into administration, with all flights suspended. The carrier plied 24 routes across Europe, North America and North Africa from its Scottish bases at Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen airports.

The airline's website says that the Globespan Group PLC has been placed in administration "having suffered liquidity issues". It continues that all flights have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

Administrators PriceWaterhouseCoopers says the group is in contact with around 5,000 passengers "who are expecting to travel to and from foreign destinations in the coming few days", and advises customers to contact the call centre on +44 (0)871 271 9000 - although this number will not be active until 10am on Dec 17.

Easyjet says it will offer stranded passengers flights home for £60, from the following destinations:

  • Faro to Glasgow

  • Malaga to Glasgow

  • Alicante to Glasgow

  • Faro to Edinburgh

  • Malaga to Edinburgh

  • Alicante to Edinburgh

  • Geneva to Edinburgh

The offer is available to any Globespan passengers due return home on these routes during the next fourteen days (until 2359 on December 30). Customers should call +44 (0)871 244 2366.
