Regional carrier Flybe is to commence flights between the Scottish city of Inverness and Amsterdam Schiphol from this September.

The new route will operate six-times weekly (Sunday to Friday) when it launches on September 5, rising to daily during summer 2012. Services will depart Inverness at 1305, arriving in Amsterdam at 1605, with the return leg leaving the Dutch city at 1630, landing back in Scotland at 1730.

There are currently no direct flights between the two cities, and the new service will alow travellers based in the Scottish highlands to access the network of short and long-haul services from Amsterdam Schiphol.

Aside from this new route, Flybe offers flights from Inverness to UK destinations including Belfast, Birmingham, Edinburgh, London Gatwick and Manchester.

The route has been made possible due to “collaborative support and key funding” from the Highlands & Islands Enterprise, as well as funding from the Highland Council, the Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership and Visit Scotland.
