Flybe launches APD rebate offer

19 Apr 2013 by BusinessTraveller

Flybe is repeating its APD rebate promotion, which it says will reduce fares by up to £26 on UK domestic routes.

The offer is valid for flights on 151 routes booked between today and Tuesday April 23, for travel between July 1, 2013 and October 25, 2014.

The carrier says that “This limited time ‘tax rebate’ effectively lowers one way fares by £13, and by £26 on return UK domestic fares”.

Commenting on the promotion Simon Lilley, Flybe’s director of marketing said:

“Our original promotion was designed to highlight the unfairness of Air Passenger Duty especially for domestic passengers who have to pay twice. Due to its popularity and the overwhelming feedback we received, we have responded to requests to extend this offer as part of our ongoing commitment to offer ‘Great Prices for Great Britain.”

Flybe points to the fact that a passenger on a 366-mile return trip between Southampton and Manchester would normally have to pay £26 (£13 each way) in APD charges, compared to just £13 on a 4,030-mile return trip from Manchester to Cyprus (as the return leg is exempt from UK APD).

The rebate is applicable on routes where Flybe is the aircraft operator, and where APD is applicable, and the carrier notes that “Only a selection of its 2014 routes are currently on sale for travel between February 24 and October 25, but these do include its most popular summer sun routes and those to regional France”.
