Finnair adds paid-for meal options

14 Oct 2013 by Mark Caswell

Finnair has added the option for economy passengers to upgrade to a paid-for meal on all non-domestic European routes.

The option is available on all services including those operated by partner Flybe Finland, with the exception of those to Stockholm, St Petersburg, Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, and on flights from Madrid to Helsinki.

Paid-for meal choices include an all-day breakfast enchilada, beef bourguignon, pasta bolognese, chicken korma and rice, and a salad with smoked salmon.

Upgraded meals cost €10 if ordered in advance, or €12 if bought onboard (although the carrier notes that “only a very small selection of meals will be available for purchase on board”).

At present passengers can pre-order a meal by logging into the My Booking section of the Finnair website up to 72 hours before their flight – in the future the option will be added to the flight booking process.

Dutch carrier KLM introduced an a la carte meal options for economy passengers on intercontinental flights back in 2011 (see news July 2011), and sister airline Air France launched a similar offering last year (see news July 2012).

Earlier this month Finnair announced plans to open a new Premium Lounge at Helsinki airport (see news October 2).
