FCO advises against “all but essential travel” to Bangkok

27 Oct 2011 by BusinessTraveller
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is advising against non-essential travel to Bangkok and 26 provinces in Thailand affected by recent flooding. The advice, which does not include transit through Suvarnabhumi International airport, follows reports that thousands of Bangkok residents are fleeing the city with fears of “severe flooding” over the weekend. Bangkok’s domestic Don Muang airport is currently closed, but Suvarnabhumi remains open. British Airways’ website (as of 0850 on Thursday October 27) states: “All services are currently operating normally to and from Bangkok. However we would recommend that you check the status of your flight before leaving for the airport. “You can also check your flight status on your mobile phone by visiting ba2go.com. “Travelling in the next few days? “If you are due to travel to or from Bangkok up to 31 October and wish to change your travel plans you may do so. We will permit 1 free change to your travel dates, travel must take place within ticket validity. “Alternatively you may use the value or your ticket towards the purchase or a new ticket to a different destination.” Our sister website Business Traveller Asia-Pacific has further details on the floods here.
