Exclusive club for PAs opens in London

17 Jun 2009 by Mark Caswell

A club for top-level executive and personal assistants has been launched in London’s Mayfair.

Number 42 plans to “combine the best of networking, events, career development and much more” for those individuals commonly referred to as “the power behind the throne”. It will hold monthly salons and cocktail parties and provide access to a secure online forum for members to network and share knowledge.

It has been launched by Pasley-Tyler, an exclusive private members’ club based at 42 Berkeley Square, where deals such as the US$800 million takeover of Liffe by Euronext, Volkswagen’s and BMW’s £479 million capture of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars and the £8.2 billion purchase of British Oxygen by Linde AG took place.

A grand Georgian townhouse, 42 Berkeley Square was originally home to Margaret Newton, the second Countess of Coningsby. A famous 18th-century socialite, she was well known for her gatherings, and Pasley-Tyler hopes this legacy will inspire similarly lively events at the new club.

Speaking at Number 42’s launch last week, Robert Pasley-Tyler, chief executive of Pasley-Tyler, said the formation of a club for this group of professionals was long overdue and stressed the need for exclusivity “given that there are only a few hundred positions at this level in the UK”. Membership is by invitation only and an advisory board of ten top executive assistants will help to handpick members from the highest level of business, the arts and politics.

Those who join will gain access to a number of luxury brands that have signed up as strategic partners, such as private jet company Jet Republic, luggage maker Tanner Krolle and fragrance house Penhaligon’s.

Judging by the large group of PAs who battled through the London tube strike to make the launch event last week, the take-up will be enthusiastic. Visit number-42.com for more information.
