Etihad to triple seats on Mumbai and New Delhi routes

23 Sep 2013 by GrahamSmith

Etihad Airways plans to more than triple the number of seats on its Mumbai and New Delhi routes from November.

The move, which is subject to regulatory approval, is one of several increased options for travel between Abu Dhabi and India that the airline has unveiled.

Etihad wants to introduce more flights and wide-bodied jets on its Indian routes by the end of the year.

At the top of its agenda is to increase from daily to double-daily its services to Mumbai and New Delhi from November 1.

It will also deploy a wide-bodied A340-600 aircraft offering first, business and economy classes on one of its daily Abu Dhabi to Mumbai flights.

One of its Abu Dhabi to New Delhi route, Etihad plans to deploy a wide-bodied A330-200 offering business and economy classes.

By the end of the year, it also hopes to upgrade its Abu Dhabi to Chennai flights from 136-seat Airbus A320s to new 174-seat A321s.

And, Etihad intends to codeshare with Jet Airways on a "wide range of flights operated within India". Again, this is subject to regulatory approval.

Last month, the airline extended its Business Connect scheme, its loyalty programme for businesses, to 11 new markets (see news, August 29).
