Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways will launches flights to the Japanese cities of Tokyo and Nagoya in the spring of 2010.

The direct route to Tokyo Narita will commence with a five-times weekly service on March 27, while the Nagoya route (via Beijing) will run four-times weekly from February 1, increasing to five-times weekly on March 27.

The Tokyo service will be plied with a three-class Airbus A330, while the Nagoya flights will operate with a two-class A330. Etihad says that “connection times will ensure that flights between Japan and Etihad’s European and Middle East flight network, via Abu Dhabi, are popular with business and leisure travellers”.

There are currently no direct services from the UK to Nagoya, while the London-Tokyo route is served non-stop by BA, Virgin, ANA and JAL.
