Ethiopian Airlines is looking at increasing flights and upgrading its aircraft for its operations in India.

Currently, Ethiopian Airlines operates a daily flight from the Ethiopian capital — Addis Ababa — to Delhi and Mumbai.

“We are looking forward to launching flight operations to Chennai from Ethiopia. We are keenly looking at flying passengers from Chennai,” says Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.

The airline is in talks with India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and other civil aviation authorities.

India and Ethiopia signed a deal last year to allow both the country’s national carriers to increase weekly flights from 21 to 28. Air India and Ethiopian Airlines are both members of Star Alliance and share code-sharing pacts.

Ethiopian Airlines operates flights to 111 cities worldwide. The carrier has a fleet of 68 Boeing aircraft.
