Ethiopian Airlines launches Dreamliner site

29 Jul 2009 by Mark Caswell

African carrier Ethiopian Airlines has launched a section of its website dedicated to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, complete with layout details and CGI videos of the seating products.

Dreamliner launch customer ANA released images of the exterior of its 787 aircraft last month (see online news June 16), but Ethiopian is believed to be the first airline to provide such detailed information regarding the interior of its Dreamliner aircraft.

The seat plan on the carrier’s website shows a business class configuration of 2-2-2 across four rows, making a total of 24 seats in the cabin. Economy is then split across two cabins, with a 3-3-3 layout and a total of 246 seats.

The computer-generated video of business class shows a green and beige seat decor, with large seat back TV screens and several storage spaces. The seat itself appears to recline just short of being lie-flat. The economy also shows a smart green decor, again with generously-sized individual TV screens.

The airline’s website refers to the aircraft as “coming in 2010”, although Boeing has not yet released new delivery dates for the launch of the Dreamliner (ANA being the launch customer), following the latest delay reported last month (see online news June 23).

Ethiopian Airlines has also this week announced the purchase of five B777-200LRs from Boeing (the first due in 2010), and twelve A350-900s from Airbus (due in 2017).
