Emirates will fly to Guangzhou from July 1

Europeans visiting the bustling southern Chinese city of Guangzhou (Canton) will have another flight option from this summer.
Dubai’s national airline Emirates will launch a four-times weekly link to Guangzhou starting from July 1, operated by two-class (business and economy) Airbus A330s. The new service will compete with China Southern and Kenya Airways, both of whom ply the route at present.
Emirates has not yet officially announced schedules, but Business Traveller can reveal that the new flight EK362 will depart Dubai every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 1035, to reach Guangzhou at 2220 the same day. Return service EK363 will leave Guangzhou at 2355 and arrive in Dubai the next morning at 0340.
Flight connections vary from destination to destination, but a passenger taking Emirates’ last flight of the day from London Heathrow, would have a transit time in Dubai of just under two hours on the way out. However, on the return, a connection of four hours is needed before Emirates’ morning connection to Heathrow.
In other news, Emirates claims its Newcastle-Dubai service (launched last September), has been such a success that according to Vic Sheppard, Emirates’ vice-president for the UK and Ireland, the carrier is looking to operate a larger B777 (as opposed to the A330 currently used) on the route and to double flight frequency within a couple of years.
