Emirates to serve Copenhagen

20 Jan 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Travellers based in Scandinavia will be able to access Emirates’ global network starting on August 1. That is when Dubai’s national airline launches a daily flight into Copenhagen, operated by a three-class A330-200.

In time-honoured fashion, Emirates has scheduled the service for good connections in Dubai not just to destinations within the Middle East but also to Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Flight EK152 will depart Copenhagen at 1455 to reach Dubai at 2315. Inbound service EK151 leaves Dubai at 0830 to provide a 1310 arrival into Copenhagen.

The new service will compete with rival Qatar Airways which recently upgraded its Copenhagen-Doha service from a small narrow-bodied A319 jet to a larger A330. It means that with two Gulf airlines serving Copenhagen from this summer there will be a large increase in seat capacity which in turn spells keener pricing for consumers.

Scandinavians are keen travellers to the Asian region. Copenhagen acts as an aviation hub so travellers elsewhere in the (Scandinavia and Baltic) region will be able to easily reach the Danish capital. The city also enjoys good surface connections with southern Sweden.

Readers with long memories will remember that Emirates first planned to serve Copenhagen in 2006. But the route launch was postponed owing to the Danish Cartoon controversy.

Denmark will be the 67th country served by Emirates from Dubai. Emirates says that passengers on all its flights have the added bonus of a 30kg baggage allowance in economy class with business passengers entitled to 40kg. First class passengers have an allowance of 50kg.
