Emirates to make LAX its third US gateway
Published: 13/03/2008 - Filed under: News »
Emirates will become the first airline to serve Los Angeles (LAX) non-stop from the Middle Eastern or Gulf region when it launches daily flights from Dubai beginning September 1.
Services will be operated by long-range B777-200s with eight first class suites, 42 angled lie-flat business and 216 economy class seats.
Flight EK215 will depart Dubai at 0820 and arrive in Los Angeles the same day at 1355. Return flight EK216 departs Los Angeles at 1645 to reach Dubai the next day at 1940.
At 8,339 miles non-stop, this flight will be the longest in the Emirates’ network. Flight times for Dubai-Los Angeles will be 15 hours 55 mins; Los Angeles-Dubai will be 16 hr 35 mins. This would suggest the flight will be routed over Japan and the Pacific rather than via northern Europe and the Pole.
Emirates' new service will open up a new market on the US West Coast for travel to and from the Gulf, Middle East and Indian subcontinent. Existing schedules involve a change of plane either in Europe or the US.
