Emirates to drop A380 from New York route

17 Mar 2009 by BusinessTraveller

From June 1 Emirates will reposition its two A380 superjumbos currently plying the Dubai-New York route, on to services to Toronto and Bangkok.

The carrier recently announced that it would commence A380 services to Toronto from the start of June (see online news March 16), and will also add Bangkok to the list from the same date, making it the first carrier to fly the superjumbo to Thailand.

But in order to do this Emirates is having to reposition two of its A380s from the New York route. Said a spokesperson for the carrier:

“Effective June 1, two of Emirates’ Airbus A380 aircraft, currently operating on one of the two daily Dubai-New York JFK services, will be redeployed to the three-times-weekly Dubai-Toronto service and to one of the two daily Dubai-Bangkok services. The A380 will be replaced by Boeing’s B777-300ER on the Dubai-New York JFK route.”
