Emirates has announced that its remaining B777-300ER service from Dubai to Perth is to be replaced with the A380 from August.
The carrier rostered the superjumbo onto one of its two daily flights to Perth in 2015 (see news, December 16, 2014).
The A380’s increased capacity means that Emirates will be able to transport over 14,000 passengers between Dubai and Perth per week.
Thierry Antinori, executive vice president and chief commercial officer for Emirates, said: “Introducing our flagship A380 aircraft onto a second daily Perth service reaffirms our long standing commitment to Australia."
Since the start of this year the airline has announced plans to increase the number of A380 services on routes to Los Angeles (see news January 6), Amsterdam (see news January 6) and Washington (see news January 12).
Current A380 destinations on the airline’s Far East and Australasia network are: Auckland, Bangkok, Beijing, Brisbane Hong Kong, Melbourne, Perth, Seoul, Singapore, Shanghai and Sydney.
