Emirates expands at Birmingham

7 Apr 2009 by Mark Caswell

Emirates is showing confidence in Birmingham this summer by drafting in larger planes. From June 1 a state-of-the-art B777-300ER will replace the A330-200 currently used on one of its two daily flights to Dubai.

The larger craft will operate on the overnight flight from Birmingham and the inbound afternoon service out of Dubai. Emirates’ lunchtime flight out of Birmingham and its morning service departing Dubai are already served by the B777-300ER.

According to Emirates, the arrival of the B777-300ER on the carrier’s second daily flight represents an 11 per cent capacity increase across all classes.

Says Joe Kelly, deputy CEO of Birmingham airport, “Emirates opens up access to Australia, the Far East and Indian subcontinent via Dubai. This news will mean that there are more than 800 seats a day for people wanting to fly long-haul in style from Birmingham.”
