The joint venture between Marriott and Ian Schrager is set to open its second property this spring, a 78-room hotel in the Levent district of Istanbul.

The Istanbul Edition will join the brand’s first property in Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, and is housed within a 13-storey building featuring a three-level Espa facility, a Cipriani restaurant, lobby bar, screening room, events space, a business centre and a night club.

The hotel’s 39sqm rooms are described as “guest lofts”, and feature an entrance vestibule, a bedroom area, workdesk, and seating area with U-shaped sofa. Rooms are “entirely decorated in wood - including rosewood or soaped oak – creating a sensuous natural element from floor to ceiling that provides the cocooning warmth of a ship's interior”, and bathrooms are glass-walled and finished in marble and beige stone.

The lobby bar features a 30-foot aquarium and an adjoining seating area inspired by the traditional Turkish tea room divan, while the Cipriani restaurant joins other branches in New York, Venice, Hong Kong, London and Abu Dhabi. For events there are three flexible meeting “studios”, along with the screening room and a 190sqm events space.

Levent is one of the main business districts in Istanbul, and is located on the European side of the city. The area also includes the city’s tallest building – the 261-metre high Sapphire Istanbul, which features luxury residences and a shopping centre.

Edition is also set to open hotels in Barcelona, Bangkok and Mexico City, as well as a London property housed within the historic Berner’s Hotel in Fitzrovia (see online news November 12, 2010).
