Easyjet to offer free flights for late arrivals

20 Sep 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Passengers travelling on the Easyjet’s new Flexi Fare whose arrivals are delayed by more than 15 minutes will now receive a free leisure ticket to anywhere on Easyjet’s network.

The carrier’s CEO Carolyn McCall announced the new offer for business passengers at this week’s World Low Cost Airlines Conference in London.

McCall said that increasing the number of business travellers flying with Easyjet was a “key element of our strategy”, and added that on routes like Glasgow-London business travellers accounted for around 40 per cent of passengers.

The carrier recently launched a Flexi Fare aimed at the business traveller, with benefits including speedy boarding, unlimited ticket changes and one piece of hold luggage.

McCall said Easyjet had worked hard at strengthening “the integrity and resilience of our operations” since the problems caused by last summer’s ash cloud crisis, and pointed to figures showing that 77 per cent of departures and 82.6 per cent of arrivals were within 15 minutes of schedule for the period from the start of May to the end of August 2011, compared to 53.3 per cent and 59.3 per cent respectively last year.

Such is the confidence in Easyjet’s “operational robustness” that the carrier has launched a new offer for passengers on Flexi Fare tickets – a free flight anywhere on the Easyjet network for flight arrivals delayed by more than 15 minutes.

McCall said that terms and condition would apply for this offer, although these were not specified during the speech, but added that the only flights that would be excluded would be “those delayed by significant external factors like volcanoes, ATC strikes and the like”.
