Easyjet to increase Gatwick-Barcelona flights

7 Oct 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Low-cost carrier Easyjet is to add a sixth daily flight to its Gatwick-Barcelona route from January 6, 2012.

The new flight will depart Gatwick at 1520, arriving in Barcelona at 1820, with the return leg leaving the Catalan city at 1855, landing back into Gatwick at 2020. Tickets for the new service are on sale now.

Easyjet is currently the only carrier to offer flights between London Gatwick and Barcelona El Prat airport, although Monarch Airlines will commence daily flights between the two airports starting on October 21 (see online news July 18).

The increased frequency follows Iberia’s announcement of plans to set up a low-cost subsidiary under the name Iberia Express from next summer (click here for more details).

The new carrier will serve short and medium-haul routes from Madrid, and Iberia will hope the move will help it compete with the likes of Easyjet and Ryanair, which have established bases at Madrid and Barcelona airports in recent years.
