Dorchester to open second London hotel in August

16 May 2011 by BusinessTraveller

The Dorchester Collection will open 45 Park Lane later this year, its second luxury property in London.

The hotel is located opposite The Dorchester, and will feature 45 rooms and suites with views of Hyde Park, as well as a penthouse suite with views across London. The property is set for a soft opening in August, with the official launch in September.

Designer Thierry Despont has created an exterior with “metal fins” across the full width of seven of the nine floors, to emphasise the structure’s curve, as well as an external wall sculpture designed to reflect light across the residential floors.

Interior features include Bar 45 overlooking American steak restaurant CUT at 45 Park Lane, headed up by executive chef David McIntyre and housed within a double height space featuring a black granite bar, and a mezzanine level with library and “private media room”. The restaurant is the first in Europe by Austrian-American celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck.

Rooms will feature “the latest guest-centric hotel technology”, with cerused mahogany and soft suede walls, and bathrooms lined with Ambarino marble.

The hotel will be the third property by the Dorchester Collection in the UK, joining The Dorchester and Coworth park, a country house hotel and spa in Ascot which opened last year (see online news September 22, 2010).

The hotel is one of a raft of properties opening or being refurbished in London ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games. Kempinski's The Stafford unveils its revamp this month, while Corinthia has opened its first London property on Whitehall Place, and St Ermin's has also made its London debut close to St James' Park Station.

W Hotels opened its first London property in Leicester Square in February, while the Four Seasons London at Park Lane reopened in January after a two-year refurbishment. The Savoy unveiled its £220 million revamp late last year.

The St Pancras Renaissance Hotel London officially opened on May 5, and the boutique Eccleston Square hotel will follow suit in Pimlico this year. Bulgari Hotels will also open its first London property in Knightsbridge towards the end of the year.

The Hyatt Regency London – the Churchill is undergoing a “multimillion-pound” refurbishment of all guestrooms, and Guoman’s Charing Cross has completed its project to add a new Executive Wing.
