Dorchester Collection to expand in the UK

29 Jan 2009 by Sara Turner

Luxury hotel operator Dorchester Collection will open a new property on Park Lane and a country house hotel in Ascot in 2010. The Brunei-owned group will manage the two new hotels in the UK, and by 2015 is set to expand from the current seven properties to 15 worldwide.

Joining The Dorchester as the group's second property in London's Mayfair will be 45 Park Lane, located on the site of the old Playboy Club. The new Park Lane hotel, the eighth in the collection, will have 50 rooms, including several suites and an all-day dining restaurant.

Christopher Cowdray, CEO of Dorchester Collection, said: “All our hotels have their own style of individuality and this new hotel will be no exception.” The hotel will be contemporary in style, under the guiding hand of designer and artist Thierry Despont, who also redesigned The Promenade and The Bar at The Dorchester.

In Ascot, Surrey, Dorchester Collection will open Coworth Park, a new 69-room country house hotel, which will mark the ninth property in the collection. Situated 40 minutes from London, the new hotel will have 69 rooms, 30 in the main house and 39 in the converted stable block and adjacent cottages, plus an eco-luxury spa, a bar, a fine-dining restaurant and a casual restaurant with open air terrace.

The hotel stands in 200 acres of Surrey parkland, bordering on Windsor Great Park, and will have an equestrian centre with stabling for up to 40 horses, two polo fields and a practice field. Outdoor pursuits such as archery and pitch-and-put golf will also be on offer.

The current Dorchester Collection portfolio includes namesake The Dorchester in London, The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, Le Meurice and Hotel Plaza Athénée in Paris, the Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milan, The New York Palace in New York and the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles.
