Delta expands luxury car terminal transfer service

22 Nov 2013 by GrahamSmith

Delta Air Lines has expanded its luxury car terminal transfer service to LAX, New York JFK and Minneapolis/St Paul International Airport.

The free programme shuttles "select high-value customers" from gate-to-gate in Porsche Cayenne 5 Hybrid vehicles.

It began as a trial at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport in 2011 and Delta now makes 75 passenger Porsche transfers there each day.

Now select Sky Miles Diamond Medallion passengers connecting on flights at Los Angeles International Airport, JFK and Minneapolis/St Paul are to be offered the service.

Those Diamond Medallion customers selected "will be greeted at the aircraft boarding door by a Delta Elite Services representative who escorts them with their baggage to an awaiting vehicle and on to their connecting gate".

A statement from Delta said that passengers will be selected based on factors including flight operation, connection timing and member status.

Mike Henny, Delta's director of customer experience, said: "Delta is continuing to create new ways to recognise and enhance the travel experience for our most valuable customers.

"By partnering with Porsche to offer unsuspecting pick-ups in an even more unexpected vehicle, we've found a unique opportunity to surprise and delight customers while assisting customers between connecting flights."

Last week, Delta and Virgin Atlantic revealed how they will align their services at London Heathrow ahead of their transatlantic joint venture, which begins in summer 2014 (see news, November 11).
