Czech Airlines to resume Manchester-Prague service

Czech Airlines is to restart flights between Manchester and Prague at the end of the month, with a six-times weekly service using Boeing 737-400 aircraft.

From March 29 flight OK647 will depart Manchester at 0715 (every day except Sunday), arriving in Prague at 1025, with the return leg OK646 leaving Prague at 2000 (every day except Saturday), and landing back in Manchester at 2120.

The route will provide competition for the current Bmibaby service between the two cities. Bmibaby also flies to the Czech capital from East Midlands and Birmingham airports.

Facing heavy losses for 2009 Czech Airlines recently sold its headquarters at Prague airport, along with its duty free and travel retail operations at the airport, and there have been reports that the carrier is looking to sell its slots at London Heathrow and New York JFK.

The Czech goverment had been trying to sell its 92 percent stake in the airline, with Air France among the companies to make a preliminary bid before pulling out in August last year. This sale process appears to have been put on hold for the time being at least.
