With many hotel developments being delayed or postponed as the economic downturn takes hold, it’s a breath of fresh air to hear that the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers has actually moved its opening date forward.

The hotel was originally due to open its doors in early 2010. But according to visitcopenhagen.dk, the city’s official tourism site, the construction of the hotel has progressed “much faster than expected”, and is now expected to open on November 16 in time for the UN Climate Summit (COP 15) taking place in Copenhagen in December.

The tourism website quotes Allan L. Agerholm, CEO and shareholder in Copenhagen Hotel Management (the owners of the development) as saying:

"Sjaelsoe Group has constructed this huge building project at impressive speeds, and we have now decided to accelerate the remainder of the process to ensure that we can open our doors in time for the UN Climate Summit in December this year.

"There are of course still many details to finalise before the opening day, but we are confident that we will make it in time we can welcome some of the many participants to COP 15."

The 366-room hotel will offer 3,500sqm of conference space, a restaurant, atrium bar and lounge, an executive club lounge with roof terrace, and a fitness centre.
