Citizen M Tower of London hotel opens this month

Citizen M will open its second London hotel on July 11. Business Traveller had a preview look this week.. Citizen M Tower of London is the Dutch “affordable luxury” brand’s eighth hotel, and the biggest so far, at 370 rooms. Located above Tower Hill station, it offers excellent views of the Tower of London, the Thames, the Shard and the Gherkin from its double-height seventh-floor bar and wraparound terrace. Eight meeting rooms are also located at the top of the property. Citizen M Tower Hill The brand’s signature ground-floor space for checking in, relaxing, working and eating is expansive, at 700 sqm, and again features colourful Vitra furniture along with floor-to-ceiling shelving holding lifestyle books and quirky London-themed objects. Artists such as Julian Opie, Dominic Harris, Peter Lamb and Dutch duo Studio Drift have created original works for the hotel. Newly introduced in this property is Coffee M, offering guests and locals hot drinks and pastries to go at the front of the property. Canteen M and bar will be open around the clock to hotel guests, and as usual there are banks of self check-in stations as well as iMacs on communal tables. There is also an outdoor terrace at the rear. Citizen M Tower Hill Rooms are 17 sqm and look either externally or internally. They feature wall-to-wall Super King beds, rainshowers, free wifi and movies, and iPads to control the TV, mood lighting and temperature. Guests can also stream content from their own devices to the TV. Rates range from £109 to a maximum £269 depending on demand. Citizen M will open a third London property in Shoreditch in September, and next year is due to add five more – two in Paris, a second in New York, plus Shanghai and Taipei.
