Danish carrier Cimber Sterling has declared bankruptcy and stopped flights.
The independent carrier, which had bases at Copenhagen, Billund and Aalborg airports in Denmark, filed for bankruptcy today saying that its owners had removed financial support.
Cimber, which had an airline code of QI, was founded in 1949 and flew to 33 short-haul destinations around Scandinavia and Europe. It took over several international routes after Sterling Airways went out of business in 2008.
CEO Jans Palmer said the company’s management had "worked intensely “ to try to turn the company around but “ran out of time”.
“It was simply not possible to change the direction of the company as fast as needed and thereby in due time deliver the necessary financial results,” he added.
