Carlson Rezidor plans Australasia expansion

Carlson Rezidor has announced plans to grow its portfolio across Australasia (Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands).

The hotel group aims to have 15-20 properties in the region in the mid-term, and is negotiations “with several developers” to roll out its new Radisson Red brand to cities including Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

The first Radisson Red hotel opened in Brussels last month (see news April 18), and the brand has total of 14 properties under development, in locations including Glasgow (see news September 2015), and Dubai (see news February 25).

Carlson Rezidor currently operates four properties in Australasia - Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne, Radisson Suites Sydney, Radisson Blu Fiji Denarau Island and, the recently refurbished Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney.

Commenting on the plans Andreas Flaig, executive vice president, Development, Asia Pacific, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group said:

“Australasia is an integral part of Carlson Rezidor’s Asia Pacific expansion strategy and we are committed to growing our presence in this market by rolling out our brand portfolio and actively seeking conversion opportunities.

“In addition to addressing the millennial-minded segment by introducing our Radisson Red brand in metropolitan cities, we are exploring upscale resort opportunities along the Gold Coast for Radisson Blu, while growing our Park Inn by Radisson brand to capture the midscale segment.”

Last month Chinese conglomerate HNA Group announced buy Carlson Hotels, the majority sahreholder in the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group (see news April 28).
