Business Traveller unveils redesigned, interactive magazine

26 Oct 2012 by ScottCarey7

The November edition of Business Traveller magazine has a new look, as well as interactive “augmented reality” content that comes to life with the help of your smartphone.

After months of work, the Business Traveller team has given the print edition of the magazine a fresh new contemporary design, conceptualised by our art director Annie Harris, and partnered with augmented reality company Blippar, to enable the integration of videos, slideshows and other interactive elements such as live polls within the pages.

In response to reader feedback, we have also introduced new features and columns, including Platform, by Alex McWhirter, which looks at topical rail travel issues, and Snapshot, which celebrates a bygone era of travel. You will also see regular articles on food and drink around the world, and more on leisure and lifestyle.

In keeping with our trademark emphasis on the written word, we are continuing to provide in-depth analysis of business travel issues and trends, destination reports, Four-Hour Guides and gadget round-ups, along with Tried and Tested reviews and the Frequent Traveller.

As you will discover, the November edition has a “future” theme, with features on what flying will be like in 2050, airport and hotel room design of tomorrow, and sci-fi technology. It also includes features on everywhere from London to Lima, Shanghai to the Swiss Alps.

In an exciting bid to bridge the gap between print and online, our partnership with Blippar has meant we could create not only interactive bonus content throughout the magazine, but an exclusive cover that comes to life in front of you. All you have to do is download the free Blippar app to your iPhone, iPad or Android device and scan the page – it even works off a computer screen, and you can try it right here and now (just scan the cover on the screen above).

You will also find we have used Blippar throughout our annual Airline Survey, which is published as a supplement alongside the November edition, with a special interactive 3D cover (scan the cover below), and aircraft seat video demonstrations.

We hope our use of augmented reality will enhance and enrich your reading experience. If you would like to give us feedback, email us at [email protected], post on our forum or tweet @BTUK (hashtag #BTBlippar).
