Burj Al Arab to add 10,000 sqm sea deck

22 Jan 2016 by BusinessTraveller

Dubai’s Burj Al Arab Jumeirah hotel is to add a huge 10,000 sqm deck stretching out into the Gulf.

The North Deck will feature a 612 sqm fresh water pool, a second 828 sqm sea water pool, a restaurant and bar, 32 cabanas and 400 sun loungers.

The luxury property – which has in the past been dubbed “the world’s only seven-star hotel” – is bringing the decking to Dubai by boat from Finland, and plans to open the new facility in the second quarter of this year.

The 5,000-tonne construction is scheduled to arrive in Dubai in mid-February, and will be lowered into place in six sections on top of 90 steel piles.

The hotel said that the offsite construction and steel pile installation “will cause minimal impact to the marine environment”, adding that the deck had been designed “to provide shade for local fish and to attract undersea ecosystems that are known to cluster around steel piles”.

Commenting on the new facility Robert Swade, Jumeirah Group COO said:

“This is the first time a structure of this nature and size has been built in one country and then transported to another country to be assembled and operated.

“We are really pushing the boundaries of innovation and demonstrating how committed we are to positioning Dubai as the most exciting destination in the world and Burj Al Arab Jumeirah as the finest provider of luxury experiences.”
