Bmibaby launches FlyPlus business fare
Published: 07/09/2011 - Filed under: News »
Low-cost carrier Bmibaby has launched three new fare categories, aimed at business, leisure and family customers.
The three new services are named Fly, FlyPlus and FamilyFly. The former is Bmibaby's standard package, with passengers paying for extras such as airport check-in, checked luggage, seat assignment and ticket changes.
FlyPlus is the new business traveller fare, which includes many of these elements as a bundled fare, with Bmibaby saying that “the total price of each product is less than the cost of all the individual elements included”.
Benefits include the option of checking in at the airport, seat selection at the time of booking, no charges for debit or credit card purchases, no charges for ticket changes, access to executive lounges, and an extra laptop bag hand luggage allowance on top of the normal one piece limit.
The FamilyFly option includes all of these benefits (apart from lounge access and the extra laptop hand luggage allowance), and also allows families to board first, and to take one piece of checked lugagge up to 22kg at no extra cost.
Managing director Julian Carr said that the new products had been launched after “ extensive research into what our customers want”.
When Business Traveller made a dummy booking for a midweek flight between East Midlands airport (the carrier's main hub) and Amsterdam, departing on the morning of October 4 and returning on the evening of October 5, we were offered a Fly fare of £56.48 (including taxes but not including card charges), compared with £162.48 for the FlyPlus option.
The launch follows a recent similar move by Easyjet, with the carrier's Flexi fare offering benefits including speedy boarding, hold luggage and no credit / debit card fees (see online news June 7).

I'd love to see the additional piece of hand luggage in operation at EMA - the security staff will never let it through......
