Bmi to take over more Lufthansa routes

1 Mar 2010 by BusinessTraveller

From March 28, Lufthansa-owned Bmi is poised to enter more of its parent’s UK routes according to flight schedules displayed on Lufthansa.com

From that date, Bmi will be entirely responsible for the operation of Lufthansa’s three times a day service linking London Heathrow with Cologne.

Bmi will also operate an additional service for Lufthansa between Heathrow and Hamburg. This will allow Lufthansa to operate four times a day on this important route as against the current three daily services. With a departure at 0715 (and an arrival into Hamburg at 0945) the new service, LH4769, is aimed fairly and squarely at the business market. Inbound flight LH4768 will depart Hamburg at 1115 to provide a noon arrival into Heathrow.

Between Heathrow and Berlin Tegel, where Bmi already operates all three daily flights on behalf of Lufthansa, there will be a fourth daily service aimed at business travellers. New service LH6493 will leave Heathrow at 1730 and arrive into Tegel at 2020. It will then provide a useful late evening return as LH6494, out of Tegel at 2105 with a landing back into Heathrow at 2200.

All flights will be operated by A319s and Bmi will be providing a business class cabin. We await confirmation as to whether Bmi will adopt Lufthansa’s policy of not selling the middle seat of three to give a 2-2 business class cabin or whether it will stay with its own 3-3 configuration.

Bmi is already operating a number of other routes to and from Heathrow on behalf of other Lufthansa group carriers.

As previously reported on businesstraveller.com  (see online news January 18) Bmi will soon operate between Heathrow and Vienna alongside Austrian Airlines.  Other Bmi services for the Lufthansa group include a shared flight schedule with Swiss and Lufthansa Italia out of Heathrow to Geneva and Milan Malpensa respectively.
